I went here with a few of my friends a while ago. We went in to sit down and the waitress asked us what we wanted. Kyle and I were unsure of what we wanted so we told her nothing, and that we would get back to her on what we were planning on ordering. She proceeded to rudely tell Kyle and I that if we weren't going to order something right then, then we had to get out of the restaurant. We were both so appalled by this that we just walked out and never bothered to even try to eat at Rancho Grande ever since.

Well first time here and for being here for so many years I was expecting something different. The first thought when I walked in and seen all the pink was what am I getting myself into! There was one other table dining so they were not busy at all. I was given a small glass of water with no ice in it along with some stale tasting chips. Other restaurants give hot chips and salsa. It came with mild and hot salsa. They had a good flavor but a bit watery for my taste. I ordered the combination plate that included, a taco, burrito, enchilada and tostada with rice and beans. The beans flavor was a bit off to me almost a bit lemony or something. I ordered a side of guacamole and it seemed to be store bought because of the consistency. I did have to add salt to taste. The service was fast but my waitress didnt come back to ask if I needed anything till I was almost finished because she was sitting with her grandkids and another woman. They were calling her grandma. The food was decent for the price but I dont see myself coming back anytime soon but not that I ever wouldnt. When another waitress cleared my dishes she brought me some fried tortilla strips with honey that was a nice surprise. Just enough for something sweet. So all in all it didnt feel like quite the authentic mexican meal which I have had in Mexico and at friends houses. But it dies in a pinch.

Small family owned business. We have been dining here for 10 years. Best Mexican food in town and always friendly service.

My family and I just moved into Garden City and was looking for a great Mexican restaurant to satisfy our constant cravings. A nearby CVS referred me to Rancho Grande so we thought we would give it a try. We walked in and no one greeted us, there was no sign indicating whether it was a "seat yourself" restaurant or not, and when someone finally did come out she said very rudely "Go in and sit". We sat down and when our impolite waitress finally got our drink order we had to wait about 10 minutes for her to actually bring it. She then asked if we were ready. I had a couple of questions about the food and she seemed very annoyed impatient so I just guessed what I wanted to get her away from us. Looking around the place was very dingy, the decor consisted of pinatas and grossly-dirty hot pink walls. The floor looked nasty and mucky and our water cups were stained with lips marks. We told our waitress about our dirty cups and she just rolled her eyes, grabbed them from our hands, and walked off..no apologies or anything. We received our food and to our amazement, it was actually really good. I mean, DELICIOUS! Perfectly seasoned, everything tasted so fresh, and you could definitely tell the chef/owner had a lot of passion for it. In the middle of enjoying our food, our waitress started yelling at another waitress in the dining room about what customer arrived first and that she needs to "get off her ass and clean tables". I had my 3-year-old daughter with me and I was so incredibly offended, we almost walked out right then. We will NEVER eat there again. So if you decide to get Rancho Grande for your Mexican cravings, make sure you get it to go! And a little tip for the owner: fire that waitress!!

My husband and I came here one evening in search of trying a new restaurant. We were tremendously disappointed. Everything had a sticky feel to it. The menu, condiments, the table. Not to mention seeing our waitress touch our food with her bare hands after handling money. As for the food, I've eaten better at Taco Bell. I'm sorry to say but I would not recommend this place to anyone.

I can't top Janelle's brilliant review, so I'll just second it. I went here recently because my friend loves the place, but now I realize that it must be that crazy, nostalgic, I've-been-coming-here-since-I-was-in-the-womb-and-would-overlook-a-dead-mouse-in-the-food kind of love. Not that there was a dead mouse in the food! It just tasted like nothing. Honestly, I can't even remember what I ate, but it probably tastes the same as everything else on the menu. I do recall doing a taste-test comparison of what were represented as mild and spicy salsas, and they tasted exactly the same (not spicy). The margaritas are billed as the best in the city, which must mean that they are the only margaritas in the city. Maybe I'm biased, having recently mastered a damn good frozen margarita, but the margarita I ordered also tasted like nothing. Frozen nothing, rimmed with salt. Also, it was listed as a "giant" or "jumbo" margarita of some sort, but it was a completely normal size and certainly not worth what I paid for it. I am incredibly loathe to make fun of servers--in fact, I am one of the most patient, forgiving diners you'll find--but ours was seriously a space cadet. She kept forgetting refills, forgetting what we'd ordered, maybe even forgetting where she was at times? And whenever we needed something, she'd disappear for extended periods of time, an amazing feat in such a small restaurant. I know, I know; in the grand scheme of things, tasteless food and a half-there server are far from abominations. But please, spend your money elsewhere.

I'd honestly give it 0 stars if that were an option. The food tastes like nothing and the server I had was AWFUL! The place isn't big whatsoever and she's disappear for the longest of times. Didn't give me the correct order even after she repeated the order correctly to me after I ordered. Terrible service and terrible food. Don't waste your time or money.

Tonight my spouse and I tried this little place down the street from us and we really enjoyed the food it was excellent and authenic with great prices, service was phenomenal, the waitress was friendly and extremely honest, the waitress did not make me feel rushed which I feel at most restaurant's because I am an indecisive person. I will be visiting here again very soon! This was very authentic and I enjoyed the experience of being in a Mexican restaurant with the whole hispanic feel....

My family and I have been eating at this location since it opened (many years ago). The restaurant is family owned and the food is very good. I've eaten Mexican food all over the world (a bit of a misnomer, but true) and the food here is delicious. The serving staff is attentive and friendly (after 20 years, we know most all of them). The helpings are generous and they serve alcohol (small bar). I would recommend the Tacos Al Carbon (the Pico served with them is freah and spicy). My wife's favorite is the Camarones Al Mojo De Ajo (a mouthful in more than one way). If you're in a mood for heat, I would recommend the Biste Envinado (a New York strip steak that will definitely live up to the claim, "Only for the strong").

I have gone here many times and have not found a problem with the food. The staff are very friendly and I know many people who enjoy their food.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
